Determine the auspicious and inauspicious sectors and directions.

I’ve heard of Feng Shui directions: what are they?

Feng Shui direction is not a proper term; however it refers to auspicious directions, and sectors, based on the association given with your personal Gua. Please keep in mind that the Bazi has priority over those directions and sectors and your chart can suggest different sectors and directions from your Gua number.

The following directions are in decreasing order: the best, on top, is called Sheng Chi; the worst, at the bottom, is called Wu Gui. The four first directions are considered auspicious; the four last inauspicious. The traditional meanings of these sectors are:

• Sheng Qi: good for conceiving, good for movement and travelling. Very suited for males.

• Tian Yi: For health, concentration and longevity

• Yan Nian: Bring peace and longevity

• Fu Wei: Bring stability and perseverance.

• Huo Hai: Constant disturbance, and attract legal problems

• Liu Sha: Instability in relationship

• Jue Ming: Health problem, no tranquillity. Accident and robbery.

• Wu Gui: Accidents and illness. So for example if you Gua is Kun Gua, your Sheng Qi sector/direction is Northeast.

Real-life situation are much more nuanced – if for example your are sleeping under your Wu Gui area but if this is also the best Element for your Bazi, your are then unlikely to experience such bad effects.

Best is to combine both auspicious sector and good supporting Element if possible.

Those sectors are guidance only and should be adapted to individual cases. A Feng Shui expert do not put an elderly person in the same area as he would put a teenager, as their needs in Chi are different. Therefore don’t assume the “best” sector will necessarily bring the best outcome…

Moreover a sector contains more than just one type of Chi. All sectors have a dominant Chi, but also some subtle energies. Actually only the four cardinal sub-directions (South 2, West 2, North 2 and East 2) have a “pure” Chi. All the other ones are a mix of different Elements. This is the advanced concept of the 24 mountains…
