Altar placement with Feng Shui
Where should I put my altar?
This is of importance for a lot of Asian people, and for spiritual people in general. There are many rules in traditional Feng Shui about the placement of both deities and altars.
An altar is ideally placed under your best Element and sector to assist you. However bear in mind that deities representations are Fire in nature, so you might want to be careful with a Wood and Metal sector, or with the Qian area if your altar support some statues of deities. Why are deities statues representation linked to the Fire Element? Fire is the most “spiritual” Element by its propensity to raise and go higher. Moreover it is a very volatile Element like spirits, deities and entities.
Otherwise some of the other rules for altars in Feng Shui are:
• Not under a beam
• Not facing a door
• Not in the bedroom
• Not in the bathroom, toilets etc.
I have seen many times Buddha statues in toilets, or bathroom, or facing the bed. This is seen as disrespectful. There are sprits that might be attracted to those symbols of worship and representations, so if you choose to use such symbols please be respectful to them.
I would therefore suggest you to also stay away from Buddha lamps, Buddha swiss-army knives or Buddha brooms, or whatever disrespectful representation twisted capitalistic minds can create. Even if technically Buddha is not a deity…
Your best Element to place your altar is determined through your Bazi, and we will see this in a consultation.
