What are the annual afflictions ?

The annual afflictions are locations that are best left undisturbed every year. They change on a yearly basis because they depend of the type of Chi brought in by the year. When activated, they can bring problems such as money loss, accidents, robbery, sickness…

The annual afflictions are know as:

• The Grand Duke of Jupiter or Tai Sui

• The Year Breaker or Sui Po

• The Three Killings or San Sha

• The 5 Yellow Star or Wu Huang

Those notions come from the SAN HE school of Feng Shui, but are usually adopted by all Schools of traditional Feng Shui.

1. The Grand Duke of Jupiter /Tai Sui

Every Chinese year is made of a stem and branch. The branch is the animal of the year; but it also represents a sector, one of the 24 mountains on the Luo Pan. This branch of the year should not be disturbed as the energy is already strong here. In Taoism, the Tai Sui are actually 60 generals/constellations that take turn every year, and bring some influence to the Year to come.

Here is a list of past and upcoming Tai Sui locations:

• 2000 Sign: Dragon/Mountain: Chen/Sector: SE1/Degrees: 112.6 – 127.5

• 2001 Sign: Snake/Mountain: Si/Sector: SE3/Degrees: 142.6 – 157.5

I should complete the following years before 2025!

It is safer to leave the whole sector undisturbed, not just the specific Mountain. For example in 2011 the Tai Sui affects the Mao mountain (rabbit), East 2. Best is to not disturb the whole East sector, as this is quite tricky to know exactly where the Mountain is located for a layperson.

Disturbances include: renovation, loud music or sound, slamming door, digging the floor, knocking on a wall etc.

A lot of people ask me about the “duke cures”, “tai sui remedy” and so on. The truth is, once disturbed there is no cure. If you really need do some work in this area, and are concerned about the effect, the best solution is to leave your house for a short holiday and come back a week minimum after the work is done – in this case you should avoid any nasty effect. However all the so called “great duke Jupiter cures” sold on internet, fancy artefacts and so on are marketing. The real cure is to not disturb the area!

Facing or sitting with your back in this area is actually not a problem, as long as the area stay undisturbed. Putting a bed on it however is not recommended if you can avoid it. Even when disturbed, the effect is not always “automatic” so don’t become obsess with it. A good Feng Shui setup do minimize any potential bad effect anyway.

2. The Year Breaker or Sui Po/Tsui Po.

The Sui Po, not as strong as the Tai Sui, should nevertheless be handled with caution too. No disturbance here either. This is the area directly opposite to the Tai Sui location on the Luo Pan.

Here is the list of some past and upcoming Sui Po locations:

• 2000 Sign: Dog/Mountain: Xu/Sector: NW1/Degrees: 292.6 – 307.5

• 2001 Sign: Pig/Mountain: Hai/Sector: NW3/Degrees: 322.6 – 337.5

• 2002 Sign: Rat/Mountain: Zi/Sector: N2/Degrees: 352.6 – 7.5

• 2003 Sign: Ox/Mountain: Chou/Sector: NE1/Degrees: 22.6 – 37.5

• 2004 Sign: Tiger/Mountain: Yin/Sector: NE3/Degrees: 52.6 – 67.5

• 2005 Sign: Rabbit/Mountain: Mao/Sector: E2/Degrees: 82.6 – 97.5

• 2006 Sign: Dragon/Mountain: Chen/Sector: SE1/Degrees: 112.6 – 127.5

• 2007 Sign: Snake/Mountain: Si/Sector: SE3/Degrees: 142.6 – 157.5

• 2008 Sign: Horse/Mountain: Wu/Sector: S2/Degrees: 172.6 – 187.5

• 2009 Sign: Goat/Mountain: Wei/Sector: SW1/Degrees: 202.6 – 217.5

• 2010 Sign: Monkey/Mountain: Shen/Sector: SW3/Degrees: 232.6 – 247.5

• 2011 Sign: Rooster/Mountain: You/Sector: W2/Degrees: 262.6 – 277.5

• 2012 Sign: Dog/Mountain: Xu/Sector: NW1/Degrees: 292.6 – 307.5

• 2013 Sign: Pig/Mountain: Hai/Sector: NW3/Degrees: 322.6 – 337.5

• 2014 Sign: Rat/Mountain: Zi/Sector: N2/Degrees: 352.6 – 7.5

• 2015 Sign: Ox/Mountain: Chou/Sector: NE1/Degrees: 22.6 – 37.5

• 2016 Sign: Tiger/Mountain: Yin/Sector: NE3/Degrees: 52.6 – 67.5

• 2017 Sign: Rabbit/Mountain: Mao/Sector: E2/Degrees: 82.6 – 97.5

• 2018 Sign: Dragon/Mountain: Chen/Sector: SE1/Degrees: 112.6 – 127.5

• 2019 Sign: Snake/Mountain: Si/Sector: SE3/Degrees: 142.6 – 157.5

• 2020 Sign: Horse/Mountain: Wu/Sector: S2/Degrees: 172.6 – 187.5

• 2021 Sign: Goat/Mountain: Wei/Sector: SW1/Degrees: 202.6 – 217.5

• 2022 Sign: Monkey/Mountain: Shen/Sector: SW3/Degrees: 232.6 – 247.5

• 2023 Sign: Rooster/Mountain: You/Sector: W2/Degrees: 262.6 – 277.5

• 2024 Sign: Dog/Mountain: Xu/Sector: NW1/Degrees: 292.6 – 307.5

As with the Tai Sui area, I recommend you not to disturb the whole area. In 2011 the Sui Po or year breaker is in the West sector: best therefore is to not disturb this area if possible.

3. The Three Killings or San Sha

Another nice one! As if two were not enough, there is also the annual San Sha energy. It is actually linked to the two previous ones.

Each branch of the Chinese zodiac belongs to a frame, also called The Three harmony combinations: Metal, Water, Wood or Fire frame. For example, the combination of the Si, You, Chou, also known as Snake, Rooster and Ox forms the Metal frame. The San Sha is the direction directly opposite to this frame. If we take the example of the Metal frame, the direction directly opposite to it is East, the Wood.

Here is a list of past and future San Sha, or 3 killings, locations. The whole sector is affected with the San Sha annual affliction.

4.The 5 Yellow Star or Wu Huang

After reading my chapter on the Flying Stars, you might think that I am against this system. While I do not believe an audit should be based on the Flying Stars, some Flying stars concepts can be used in Feng Shui. The 5 yellow star for example is the yearly and monthly “sick” star that we should try not to disturb.

Here is a list of past and incoming 5 Yellow start locations:

• 2000: North sector

• 2001: Southwest sector

• 2002: East sector

• 2003: South east sector

• 2004: Centre sector

• 2012: South east sector

• 2013: Centre sector

• 2014: Northwest sector

• 2015: West sector

• 2016: Northeast sector

• 2017: South sector

• 2018: North sector

• 2019: Southwest sector

• 2020: East sector

• 2021: South east sector

• 2022: Centre sector

• 2023: Northwest sector

• 2024: West sector

You might find some “remedies” for the 5 yellow star, but as usual those remedies are dubious. Best is to save your money and to let this area undisturbed, or to leave your property for a while if you have activated it.

Some travelling techniques like the Qi Men Dun Jia oracle can be used to boost your luck and therefore counter the effect of an activation, if needed. Please contact me if you really need to do renovation in the affected areas.
